student in a big problem now

Bunda. Authorities in Bunda District say 37 school girls have been impregnated between April and September this year and procedures are underway to expel them from school.

Two among the impregnated girls are primary school pupils, according to the District Commissioner for Bunda, Lydia Bupilipili.

Ms Bupilipili told The Citizen on Thursday that efforts to track down men responsible for impregnating the school girls have failed.

“Village leaders, police and parents of the impregnated girls are solving pregnant cases ‘amicably’, which amounts to collusion,” she said

She noted that there is collusion between teachers, parents, village leaders, police and those who have made the girls pregnant, to secretly cover up the matter.

“Impregnated school girls have been mentioning men responsible for making them pregnant but the matter is covered up through bribes and no legal action is taken,” she said

In addition, she said that village leaders including Ward Executive Officers are to blame for failing to follow-up on the cases they have reported to police involving school girl pregnancies.

“Most of the village leaders just report the cases to police but they make no follow up to determine what legal actions have been taken,” she said

The District Administration Secretary for Bunda Masalu Kasasila warned that immoral male teachers who lure school girls into having sex with them will be taken to task.
